Parenting is not an easy job! Everyone needs support along the way…and the best kind of support meets you where you are and speaks to who you are. That’s why we’ve compiled a list of all sorts of queer-friendly parenting resources for LGBTQ+ parents and those hoping to become parents—including queer-centered blogs, mental health directories, and support groups.

    Family Equity

This organization is dedicated to helping current and future LGBTQ+ families experience the love, safety, and belonging they all deserve through advocacy, support, storytelling, and education. Their robust website includes a directory of LGBTQ+ affirming family-building providers (plus trans-specific guides), state-by-state LGBTQ family law guides, links to a national network of LGBTQ family support groups, advocacy directives, and more! We especially love their LGBTQ+ Parents and Families Facebook group and their robust blog filled with informative articles.

    xHood

xHood is a safe community where Black queer parents and parents-to-be are supported in their efforts to nurture their children and families, all while navigating the Black reproductive health crisis, systemic racism, homophobia, and transphobia, and more. Folks can connect on their private Facebook group and sign up for the xHood newsletter to stay abreast of upcoming events.

    PFLAG

Among a host of other resources, PFLAG provides both in-person and virtual peer-to-peer support for all members of the LGBTQ+ community—including parents. You can find a PFLAG chapter near you and connect online with queer AAPI, queer Black, queer Latino, and/or queer military families. There are also helpful coming out guides, resources for those parenting queer youth and advocacy resources for protecting LGBTQ+ kids and families.

    LGBTQ+ Healthcare Directory

In the market for a queer-friendly OB-GYN, midwife, pediatrician, family practitioner, therapist, or another healthcare provider? Look no further than the LGBTQ+ Healthcare Directory, which is a free and searchable database born from the Tegan and Sara Foundation and the Gay and Lesbian Medical Association (GLMA). The directory also features pros like massage therapists, which, honestly, every parent deserves!

    Gay Parents Magazine

This digital magazine, created by a lesbian mom, focuses on supporting and empowering LGBTQ+ parents and those hoping to become parents. Here, you can explore their resource page and other queer content to learn more about surrogacy, education, health, LGBTQ+ friendly programs, and more.

    Postpartum Support International

Did you know that queer and trans folks are at higher risk for perinatal mood struggles? That’s why Postpartum Support International (PSI) offers specialized support for LGBTQ+ families. They’ve got a weekly queer-focused support group and Support Coordinators who are trained to provide meaningful and targeted info and a helping hand to LGBTQ+ families.

    La Leche League International

La Leche League, the well-known breastfeeding advocacy and support group, has specialized advice geared toward the transgender and non-binary community. For example, you can learn about why, as a non-binary individual, you might have a reduced milk supply. You can learn about milk banks, support groups, breastfeeding without giving birth, and personal queer-focused breastfeeding stories. too.

    Resolve

The National Infertility Association’s Resolve is an organization dedicated to improving the lives of all people struggling to build their family—including members of the queer community. In fact, Resolve’s website features a dedicated section all about LGBTQ+ family-building options, which includes specifics on IUI, IVF, surrogacy, adoption, and more. Plus, there’s a super-helpful page on everything you don’t know about LGBTQ+ family making, written by the mom and lesbian co-hosts of the podcast If These Ovaries Could Talk.

    Return to Zero Hope

RTZ Hope is a national nonprofit providing support, resources, and community for all people, including members of the queer community, who’ve experienced unimaginable loss during their journey to parenthood. RTZ Hope offers safe community support and workshops for bereaved LGBTQ+ parents that acknowledge the unique challenges they face, including systemic discrimination. You’ll also find podcast and book recommendations, various LGBTQ+ pregnancy and infant loss support resources, links to supportive midwives and doulas, webinars, and more.

National Queer & Trans Therapists of Color Network

The NQTTCN directory features 300+ mental health practitioners working in agencies, community-based clinics, and private practices around the country, who are trained, ready, and able to meet LGBTQ+ parents (and non-parents) where they are, giving them help they need. Simply search the database by zip code to find a queer therapist of color near you.

    Mombian

This GLAAD Media Award-winning blog provides “sustenance for lesbian moms” with a wide variety of posts designed to inform, help, inspire, and sometimes just make you laugh. You’ll find posts like What Kids Call Their LGBTQ Parents and What Does ChatGPT Know About LGBTQ Families? Plus, a plethora of resources, and there’s also the Mombian Database of LGBTQ Family Books and More that houses over 1,500 recommendations.
