May means bright blooms springing from the earth, sunny blue skies, and…babies who are bound to blossom into incredible human beings! Here are a few fun facts about May and some of the traits that make your May baby so special.

May babies’ horoscope sign is Taurus or Gemini.

May babies born between May 1st and 21st fall under Taurus’ sign (aka the bull). May babies born after the 21st will be Geminis (symbolized by the twins).

More About Your May Baby’s Taurus Zodiac Sign

Ruled by the Venus, the planet that governs beauty, Taurus is associated with good (and expensive) taste! They love life’s little luxuries and aren’t afraid to indulge. Thought to be loyal, Tauruses make fierce, devoted friends. They’re steady, determined, patient, and sure of themselves…but on the flip side can be stubborn and set in their ways. Plus, they can appreciate a beautiful space, so you’ll want to check out our nursery ideas for every horoscope sign!

More About Your May Baby’s Gemini Zodiac Sign

Gemini is the most versatile member of the zodiac (this go-with-the flow quality bodes well for the toddler years!). The Mercury-ruled sign is known for quick wit, a flair for communication, and an outgoing personality…meaning you may have a baby social butterfly on your hands. However, the flights of fancy that drive Gemini can also make them, well, flighty, and easily distracted.

May babies’ birthstone will make others green with envy.

May’s birthstone is the vibrant green emerald. Emeralds are one of the world’s rarest stones, and they symbolize rebirth and love…plus they look pretty darn stunning in a yellow-gold ring or necklace setting (just saying!). Learn about all the birthstones!

May babies’ birth flowers are sweet and hopeful.

Since May is a month known for bringing the world into full bloom, aren’t all flowers technically May flowers? But if we are talking official birth flowers, May is represented by the starkly beautiful lily of the valley and the hawthorn flower (a small pale pink bud that grows on a thorny bush). They stand for sweetness and hope, respectively…a lovely message for your May babe.

May babies might be born lucky.

No need for a four-leaf clover…your little one might already have all the good juju they need! A 2004 study revealed that people born in May consider themselves luckier than those born in other months. (The month considered the least lucky? October.)

    May babies have positive attitudes.

Along with good fortune, being born in May seems to bring good spirits! Spring- and summer-born babies are more likely to have an excessively positive attitude than those who make their appearance during other seasons, according to European research. Bring on the smiles!

Your May baby has lots of career options!

According to one study, some birth months are associated with certain professions (for example: a common profession for February babies is artist!) However, May babies aren’t associated with one particular career path…meaning that their options must be wide open!

May babies seem to be pretty healthy in general!

When scientists at Columbia University set out to examine the link between birth season and health, they found that May babies had the lowest disease risk! Of course, the study author also noted that the risk posed by birth month is small compared to other factors like diet and exercise…so May babies still need to take good care of themselves.

May babies have relatively rare birthdays.

There are so many special things about your May baby…including the day they were born. Only one May birthdate cracks the top 100 popular birthdays (May 23rd lands in 89th place). Meanwhile six May birthdays fall in the bottom 50 (the 4th, 11th, 13th, 26th, 27th, and 31st). In general, less babies tend to be born on holidays, as those dates draw fewer scheduled inductions or c-sections—so it makes sense that the days that sometimes coincide with Mother’s Day or Memorial Day see lower birthrates.

May babies are in star-studded company.

Despite how uncommon their birthdate may be, your May baby shares their birth month with plenty of stars. Celebrities who have May birthdays include Tina Fey, George Clooney, Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson, Adele, Octavia Spencer, David Beckham, Lance Bass, Sasheer Zamata, Noha Centineo, Robert Pattinson, Sam Smith, Laverne Cox, and Rami Malek.
