Your baby’s birthday is undoubtedly a special day…but just how special is it? After all, certain months and dates boast more births than others. So, is your little one destined for a lifetime of shared school celebrations…or will they be blowing out the birthday candles on one of the rarest birthdays of the year? Keep reading to find out the most and least popular birthdays!

Psst! Did you know that, no matter when your baby is due, you can order SNOO now and it'll be shipped when you need it?! Delayed delivery lets you check this big to-do off your list early so you can get back to prepping all the little things for your little one. Learn more about SNOO.

What are the most common birthday dates?

September 9th takes the (birthday) cake as the most common birthday of the year. Some celebs who blow out their candles on this day include Adam Sandler, Michelle Williams, and Hugh Grant.

It’s one of nine birthdates that make up the top 10! And if you take a peek roughly nine months in the past, it’s easy to see why. Babies born in mid-September were likely conceived right around the holidays when perhaps expecting parents were feeling more festive than usual! (Read more September baby facts!)

The only non-September birthday in the top 10 is July 7th—possibly because that’s when folks who were holding out until after July 4th end up scheduling inductions or c-sections.

    Most Popular Birthdays

    1. September 9
    2. September 19
    3. September 12
    4. September 17
    5. September 10
    6. July 7
    7. September 20
    8. September 15
    9. September 16
    10. September 18

What is the most common birth month?

Despite the fact that September is so heavily represented in the top 10 most common birthdays, there are actually more births reported in August! All but one August birthday made the list of 100 most common birthdays (the exception being August 3, which lands at 116). Once again, if you do the math, the conception time for August babies lines up with the approach of cooler weather and the holidays, maybe making cuddling up extra appealing.

What is the least common birthday?

Unsurprisingly, February 29th is the least common birthday. Because Leap Day only rolls around every four years, there’s only a 1/1,461 chance of being born on this day (versus 1/365 for any other given day). This means that Leap Day babies (also called Leapers or Leaplings) are stuck celebrating on February 28th or March 1st (but we think their rare b-day also gives them a great excuse to throw a blowout every four years!). Since so few folks are born on this day, your baby won’t have too many celeb birthday “twins.” Famous Leaplings include rapper Ja Rule, fictional character Superman, motivational speaker Tony Robbins and musician Mark Foster (of Foster the People).

    Other Uncommon Dates for Birthdays

Other dates that land at the bottom of the list include Christmas, New Year’s Day, Christmas Eve, and Independence Day, the day after Christmas, the day after New Year’s, and dates in late November. The reason? Hospitals are less likely to schedule inductions or c-sections on holidays!

The 13th is also a relatively rare birthday, with January, February, March, April, May, and November 13th all placing among the 50 least common birthdays. Superstition around Friday the 13th appears to be to blame here.
