    December Baby Facts

When it comes to December babies, there’s a pretty good argument that could be made for saving the best for last. These final-month-of-the-year-born kiddos are little beacons of light, thought to be endowed with good fortune and good health. Here are a few facts about your sweet December baby.

December babies’ horoscope sign is Sagittarius or Capricorn.

Your December baby’s astrological sign will be either a Sagittarius or a Capricorn. Here’s what the stars say about your bub…

    More About Your Sagittarius Baby

If your December baby is born before the 21st then they will be ruled by Sagittarius, which is represented by Archer who is half man, half beast or a centaur. Legend says that the Sagittarius never missed his target and therefore may be a hint at personality: a driven determination, plenty of wisdom, and boldness (though sometimes that boldness can come out clumsily as Sags tend to speak first, think second!). Sagittarius is also the globe-trotter of the zodiac (perhaps making one of these place baby names apt).

    More About Your Capricorn Baby

If your baby is born after December 21st, then they will be a Capricorn, which is represented by the goat—an expert climber! Those born under this hardworking sign are thought to be ambitious, pulled-together, good-natured, and highly disciplined (you don’t get to the top of the mountain without work ethic, after all!). But watch out! Capricorns can be know-it-alls.

    December babies have two flowers.

Narcissus, or paperwhites, are one of the first flowers of spring and therefore represent rebirth and renewal. Victorians used to think of paperwhites as being the flower for egoists (they are named after Narcissus, after all). However, according to Chinese legend, this flower traditionally represents wealth and prosperity. Holly is thought of as a Christmas flower. The thorny leaves representing the crown of thorns and the bright red berries representing the blood of Christ in the Christian faith.

    December babies have three birthstones.

In addition to having multiple birth flowers, babies born in December have three gorgeous birthstones to choose from: the zircon, tanzanite, and the turquoise. Each of these stones is a beautiful shade of blue, but turquoise is especially steeped in meaning. Turquoise is thought of as a love charm and is believed to brings its wearer protection and luck, as well as good fortune and a relaxed mind…all things that will undoubtedly benefit your December baby! (See more baby birthstone facts!)

Christmas Eve- and Christmas-born December babies are the rarest of all!

If you’ve fretted over your child having to share a birthday with Christmas Eve or Christmas then don’t worry (too much). It turns out that two rarest days to give birth in the US are on December 24th and 25th. Sure, you might have your baby arrive pretty darn close, but the odds are in your favor if you’re hoping to avoid throwing a birthday on one of the biggest calendar holidays of the year. (Another super rare December birthday: New Year’s Eve, which ranks 350th out of 366 birthdates.)

December babies may have fewer temper tantrums.

Exciting news for the toddler years! Researchers found that babies born in December tend to have fewer tantrums throughout their childhoods and later lives than babies born during any other time of the year. A researcher at the Semmelweis University in Budapest surveyed 366 students to find out about their moods and temperaments. It turns out that those born in December appeared to have the most even-keeled dispositions of all.

December babies are the least likely to suffer from major disease.

Some research indicates that babies born in December have the greatest chance of avoiding major diseases such as neurological disease, cardiovascular disease, respiratory disease, and reproductive diseases. Researchers think this could be due to the amount of vitamin D and sunlight that mothers are exposed to during pregnancy in different seasons. Of course, factors such as diet, exercise, genetics, and stress, all play a key role on health.

December babies share their birthday month with some impressive folks.

Babies born in December get to look forward to tons of presents, thanks to the holidays and birthday bashes…but they also get to share their big day with some awesome company. Celebrities who were born in December include Zoe Kravitz, Britney Spears, Jay-Z, Nicki Minaj, Lebron James, and Sara Bareilles to name a few.
